JECC lost to NJBarons. Batting first, NJ Barons were all out for 79 in 26.4 overs and JECC got all out for 76 runs in 27 overs.
Games
like these are gut wrenching. It takes a long time and huge amount of
determination to come out of the depression. Losing by 3 runs and not able to
chase 80 questions the cricketing abilities of all the X1 involved. Its
collective failure. No one person to be blamed and no one person to be excused.
Its very tough to report such a failure. I request everyone to take my
comments, views and suggestions in positive light. This is not meant to be
finger pointing but an effort to make better cricketers out of us.
Man of the Match: Manoj for a excellent spell of 8 superb overs taking 5 wickets and restricting Barons to 79 runs.
Bowling:
Yster (Venkatesh) continues to amaze and is now so consistent that it will be a surprise to see
him bowl a bad ball. He is bowling a most impressive and consistent line. He
was at his best again, moved the ball and in an out. The best part is he seems
to have hit the ideal pace which enables him control the movement and have a
good line going. Nothing down the leg side, nothing to leave outside the off.
He is at the batsman all the time. He and Sid bowled a brilliant spell no wides
in first six overs. We have Barons in trouble at 6 for 2 in 6 overs. A dream
start. Dilip was awesome with his field placements. He is very observant and
makes good moves in changing angles of the fielders catching positions. Such
moves stem from deep insight of the game and watching a lot of cricket.
Sid
bowled well too and is getting into his stride with every passing game. The
surprise packet was Manoj who bowled a dream spell. He swung and cut the ball
and had the batsman clueless with his movement. A five for is not a common
occurrence in a 8 over spell. You have to be good through your spell to achieve
this. Manoj was brilliant and reaped rich rewards. 4 of his 5 wickets were to
unplayable balls and would have got most good batsmen out. Bhaskar is a
cricketer who continues to impress with his all-round skills. He kept wickets as if he has been doing it
for many years.
There is something special about this guy. 4 of my 5 match
reports thus far mention his name in specific reference. This shows he is doing
something special almost every game. He kept wickets very well and showed us
another side. When you get a team all out for 79 you cannot fault the fielding
or bowling. That said we gave away 18 wides which is still too many for a score
of 79, that too we bowled just 26 overs. We dropped 3 catches. If we need to
win these are areas in the fielding / bowling dept we need to control.
Batting:
The
most depressing aspect of this game was our batting. If you cannot chase 80
against a reasonable time like Barons, we need to hang our heads in shame.
Their bowling was disciplined not threatening. All 11 players can have 11
different views on why the batting failed. End of the day each of us needs to
look inward and see how we got out and what wrong we did. Without doubt the
biggest worry and blame goes to opening partnerships of our season. You cannot
be zero for 2 in a chase.
Batting is letting down the serious efforts of our
bowlers. Bhaskar is setting an example; play time. Openers need to step up or
step down. I mean myself in this context. I strongly believe Dhanu is the best
opener we have he should not be disturbed. Give him an very extended run. In
fact just don’t meddle with him. I am so lost to comment on our batting failure
that I will take the silence is golden route and not comment further. Bhaskar
did everything he can, Dilip played so very well till he got tempted after we
reached our first milestone of 16 overs and 33 runs. My hats off to Srinath, he
played perfect # 11 game. We were so near yet so far. I feel for Bhaskar he
almost won it for us.
Comments:
We are matured cricketers who need to do soul search and come up with better
performance. I am hitting the nets this week, anyone wants to join please let
me know. I will be using bowling machine, if anyone can join most welcome. My
mind and heart and not allowing me to come up with a better report. I can
imagine rest of you must be hurting as well. Only positive thing can be when we
hurt we will work on improving. If we do not hurt then stop playing this great
game. Shan seems a very promising cricketer. We have a good team building up,
we need a motivating and match winning innings soon from someone. Ananth,
Dhanu, Sid, Chinmay we look up to one of you to provide motivation.
